It's All Relative ...
Written by Nathan Ng, 4th Grader
May 6, 2012

An hour seems like time itself had stopped when I anxiously await exciting events to happen.  I feel as if my heart were a drum, beating rhythmically like an army marching towards the victory.  I would not be able to sleep during the whole night.  Instead, I kept looking at the clock whose ticking sound seemed to mock me.  I can clearly remember the longest hours in my life as if they just had happened yesterday.
One of those heart pounding moments was when I had my 7th birthday.  It was the only day I woke up at 4 AM and then again at 6 AM.  All night I tossed and turned as if I had ants in my pants.  I could not wait to see my best friends at my favorite place:  the Lego Store!  The day would have turned out perfect except for those heart pounding hours.
The worst time was the Sacramento fieldtrip.  Only six hours away and yet it felt like an eternity.  I kept getting out of my bed to check out that cursed clock because I was afraid the bus would leave the school the moment I arrived.  It turned out the bus was still there.  I sat with my best friend and the day turned out perfect regardless of the worst heart pounding moment of my life.
Heart pounding, sleepless nights are all of the feelings that make an hour seem like a century.  I don’t mind welcoming the return of the victorious army marching with that never ending drum beat again.

Science of the Week: Mysteries of the Planets and Stars
Written by Nathan Ng, 4th Grader
April 14, 2012

We can read the clear night sky in April, 2012 to find the locations of planets and stars.  April provides a great opportunity for watching planets.  You can see four out of the five visible planets.  Jupiter, Venus, Mars, and Saturn are all visible at nightfall for most of April.  Venus burns brightly like a beacon in the west at dusk while Mars beams high in the east.  Jupiter will follow the glare of the sunset.  Saturn will shine its brightest for the year in mid-April.  You might also notice brilliant clusters of stars that surround the planets.  Sirius, the brightest star in the sky, rises from the west.  It flickers with so many different colors that many call it a rainbow star.  Aside from Sirius, you will see Leo, the Lion  constellation, and Orion , the Hunter constellation.  To identify Orion, look for a straight line of three stars that form Orion's belt.  To spot Leo, look for the stars that form a backward question mark.  That shapes the mane of the lion's head.  In April, don't forget to look out for special stars and planets that rocket across the evening sky.

"Noooo!  The zombies ate your brains!"
Here are some tips to prevent that from happening in Plants vs. Zombies!
Tip#1:  Dig up all plants when the game screen warns you about the "final wave." Warning: only do that if you have all lawnmowers in all the columns.  If not, only dig up the plants in the columns that have a lawnmower.  This action will result in finishing the level faster so that you can beat the zombie earlier.   If you don't use this trick, you will take longer to finish the game.  At least give it a try!
Tune in for the next tip next week ...

Mysterious Shipwrecked Boat!
Written by Nathan Ng, 4th Grader
April 21, 2012
I thought I saw a shipwrecked boat with gold coins spilling out of its hull while I snorkeled in the warm Caribbean water.  I was going to a nearby small island next to the beach when a shiny object caught my eye.  I cautiously swam over there to investigate.  To my surprise, I saw a glorious vision of a Spanish vessel dating back to the days of Christopher Columbus.  As I approached the aging boat, a shark appeared out of nowhere!  I breathed a sign of relief when the blood-chilling shark seemed to not notice my presence.  I hastily made a second attempt to check the boat out by circling around its hull.  There, I saw a Spanish conquistador skeleton still clutching gold coins.  There were also heaps of them around him.  Although I planned to grab all the coins, a second shark made me change my mind.  On my way back to the beach, I looked back to get a last glimpse of the shipwreck,  I only saw the sharks circling around a cove...  It must have been an illusion, but if you ever see it, it must be the ghost of the Spanish conquistador returning to guard his treasure.

New Discovery: Dogs Can Talk!
Written by Nathan Ng, 4th Grader
April 13, 2012
A local resident claimed that when he asked his dog, "What is in this bottle (wine)?"
The dog replied with a "whine"!
The man was so shocked that he fainted.  The dog lapped up the wine spilled from the dropped bottle on the floor.  When the dog got drunk from drinking the alcohol, he somehow caused a major earthquake.  Witnesses claimed that they saw the dog "tipped" a gigantic boulder into the San Andreas fault, causing this "violent display of nature."
The dog's owner got arrested for letting his dog killing 10 people and injuring hundreds of other innocent bystanders.   However, he was inducted into the Science Hall of Fame for his exciting discovery of dogs' language.  The police was extremely grateful that the earthquake knocked out a very dangerous criminal, letting them cuff him just before he woke up.  The injured criminal is now safely tucked in jail.
The dog recovered from his drunkenness and got a big bone for knocking out the notorious criminal.
